Can anyone help me with this topic…

It is about geometric discontinuity, it is said that Vertical geometric irregularity shall be considered to exist where the horizontal dimension of the lateral force- resisting system in any story is more than 130 percent of that in an adjacent story.

Can you help me understand with this commentary….


“The more than 130 percent in the width of the lateral force-resisting system between adjacent storeys could result in a primary mode shape that is substantially different from the triangular shape…”
