Colossal, magnificent, gigantic, prodigious, humongous, gargantuan… Do these words ring a bell? How about these- beams, girders, columns, truss, deck, cables, piles… You must have guessed that we are talking about bridges! Ever been awestruck to see these huge bridges designed with dexterity and care? Ever felt like building one?!
Well, here's a chance for you to use your innovation and technical skills to make a physical model of bridge!! Yes, your very own bridge, designed, fabricated and assembled solely by you!
The Civil Engineering department of IIT Kanpur and Techkriti'09 present the National Spaghetti Bridge Design Challenge, being held for the first time in India. As the name suggests, you have to design and build a bridge using spaghetti sticks, which shall then be 'tested till death'!
This is a great opportunity for you to actually apply the technical knowledge that you have gained in the classrooms and create a model bridge. This will give you a taste of the efforts that are put in by the engineers to design the actual bridges. And it's going to be tough! Cunning minds from all over the country will participate and the level of competition will be cut-throat. You will need to put in every bit of that 'extra effort' to bag a prize in this competition. So, if you think you have the courage and brilliance and blood of a hard-core engineer running in your veins, you are welcome to take a shot at it!
